Botox Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable medication that’s FDA-approved for treating forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. It is commonly used off-label to address visible signs of aging in other areas of the face.

The world’s most popular injectable treatment for temporarily reducing the appearance of lines, folds, and wrinkles, Botox is backed by decades of research and clinical trials. It also has numerous medical applications, including reducing the severity of migraines.

People choose Botox again and again because the treatment is:

  • Safe
  • Effective
  • Fast
  • Simple
  • Temporary
  • Subtle

At Northshore Dermatology, Dr. Tabor is recognized as a Top 500 Botox Provider. He and the team offer unparalleled skill and experience when it comes to Botox treatment.

How does Botox work?

Formulated from a natural substance called Clostridium botulinum, Botox works by temporarily altering the strength of targeted facial muscles. The substance used in Botox is found naturally in lakes, soil, and forests. In certain concentrations, Clostridium botulinum is deadly, but the volume used in Botox is carefully controlled and perfectly safe.

A type of neurotoxin, Botox prevents your facial muscles from going through their full range of motion. You can still create normal facial expressions after Botox injections, but you won’t have deep lines running across your forehead, between your brows, or around your eyes.

It only takes about 15 minutes to have Botox injections placed. You don’t need to prepare in advance, and you won’t need any recovery time. Many people go back to work after treatments or resume their daily activities.

How long do Botox results last?

It takes 24-48 hours for Botox results to develop. You can expect those results to last around four months. At that time, your lines, folds, and wrinkles will slowly begin to return.

You can decide to come back in for another round of treatments at that time. If there are things about your previous treatment you’d like to change, just let your provider know. Subtle alterations are possible by changing the volume of Botox used or the placement of injections.

Many people choose to have Botox at the same time as dermal fillers. Used together, these injectable treatments can do wonders for creating a more youthful, well-rested appearance. Treatments are always customized to suit your unique facial contouring and treatment goals.
